We love our neighbors. So many have stopped in to say hello and goodbye. The historical society will receive a file from us about the history of Christian Science in Charlevoix, along with the Mother Church. Many of our auditorium seats have found a home with the Lavender Farms Performance Barn. The Central Lake Lions Club has helped remove furniture and items for their bi-annual barn sales to benefit the community. The Leelanau and Kohahna Camps which serve Christian Scientists of all ages, in Glen Arbor, will receive a large benefit along with our organ, Reading Room products and will help with distributing our Reading Room Bound Volumes.

Christian Science history (From the Church By-Laws 1966). “The summer of 1906 a few loyal Christian Scientists, who were spending the summer at Charlevoix, started public services. The two following summers these services were continued, with increasing attendance, and in the fall of 1908 the town people where were interested in Christian Science, decided to continue the services during the winter.

May 24, 1909, this little band of earnest Truth seekers, wishing to establish on a firmer foundation, the teachings of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, organized Christian Science Society of Charlevoix, Michigan with nine charter members. Regular Sunday and Wednesday evening services were instituted and a Reading Room established. From this time forth the Society carried on the the work, conforming as nearly as possible to that of an organized church.

This Society desires to keep forever in view its vital relation to the Mother Church [The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA], and to consecrate its activities to the sacred cause of establish Truth on the earth, through its service to humanity.

It stands for democratic government, equal rights and privileges, equality of the sexes, and rotation in office”. The preamble of Society By-Laws, July 5, 1966

We share our own healing experiences at every Wednesday at 12:30 PM.   Typically gathering informally around the table in our Reading Room (same building as our church), it is a comfortable place to gather, share ideas, testimonies of healing, and the occasional question.  It lasts about an hour.  If you would like to call in from home to participate, we can arrange to do that for you.

There is a hymn first followed by readings selected from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.  We pray together the Lord’s Prayer.  A second hymn…Then we share around the table for 20-30 minutes what our week has brought us in the way of healing experiences, past healings we have experienced through our study of Christian Science, and new ideas of inspiration.

There is never any compulsion to share and questions are always welcome.  We close with a hymn too.  We like to sing!

This Wednesday service is an uplifting midweek refreshment.  It is meant to be a healing environment and is always special — because you are there!

Mary Baker Eddy is the discover of Christian Science and founder of our Church.  If you would like to know more, please ask us or visit the website www.christianscience.com.

*If road conditions prevent travel, please call to confirm the meeting is being held.  Phone us at 231.313.8067 (Carol) or 517.260.2947 (Steve).
